I talked about having a late supper in Lan Kwai Fong, Central yesterday, so I thought I should mention about Tsui Wah today. This is the local Chinese eatery that is open 24/7, serving the office and party crowds throughout the day and night.

Tsui Wah started off in 1967 as a modest neighborhood cafe in the bustling streets of Mong Kok serving Hong Kong’s local cuisine, such as coffee, tea, French toast and bakery products. Its business model has evolved to  include more international menu items as it opened more branches throughout Hong Kong. You can now find southeast Asian curry, Japanese noodles, or western baked rice on the menu. Vegans and vegetarians will be pleasantly surprised to find a veggie section there as well.

I ordered a stir-fried Japanese veggie udon the other night in the Central branch on Des Voeux Road but the branch in Lan Kwai Fong seems to cook it with eggs. It’s always safer to tell the server no eggs, no meat, no seafood whenever you order.

There are many other local eateries that serve veggie dishes and I have covered quite a few so far. Vegans and vegetarians, don’t give up. You’ll be able to find decent food wherever you go in Hong Kong.
