The first Greyhound Café opened its door in Thailand in 1997 and is the first fashion café in Bangkok offering the food concept in a casual dining environment. Hong Kong is the first branch outside Bangkok, known for a menu of simple food with a modern twist. It opened its second location at Ocean Terminal in Tsim Sha Tsui recently, after its first store in IFC Mall in Central.
While the service is far from the Thai hospitality one would expect, it does offer a good variety of vegetarian and vegan fusion dishes. There are a good selection of salads, spaghetti, phad Thai and Japanese soba. The phad Thai with mushrooms with crushed peanuts and chilli powder is worth mentioning. The portion is just right for people with a small appetite. While the menu says it’s with mushrooms, you would probably think it’s more like a phad Thai with tofu, which is a bonus. The spices and sauces used are just right without allowing the chili to dominate the dish. If you want it vegan, make sure you tell them to hold the eggs and fish sauce.
Thai restaurants are usually pretty vegan friendly and there is another less well known restaurant in North Point that I will introduce a bit later. Stay tuned.
