McDonald’s seems to be hugely popular in Hong Kong and around the world. Kids love this place and the little toys that come with the kids’ meals. Maybe after this ridiculous McDonald’s Twitter campaign and media reports in Hong Kong and overseas, people will start paying more attention about what they put in their bodies.

McDonald's tweet with hashtag #McDStories

On January 18, Mcdonald’s sent out two tweets with the hashtag ‘#McDStories’, in an attempt to highlight the suppliers and farmers who provide McDonald’s with their food. Instead of generating positive publicity, the campaign was backfired and people started using the hashtag #McDStories to voice their grudges and horror stories about this fast food chain, including finding finger nails and getting diarrhea after eating their food. People continue to talk about it today.

McDonald's on Twitter #McDstories

I am not sure whether all the tweets shared were true, but surely they are telling us that McDonald’s isn’t that popular after all. The hatred is obvious. Only if people find out more about what hamburgers and sausages are made of, I think the cows and pigs won’t have to fear for their lives every day.

Lala, you are welcome. I had the same thing on my mind when I wrote this. As with anything in life, kids are like blank canvas, it’s the parents and school teachers who are the painters, at least for the first 10 years or so. The question you posed could be a very good research topic…wonder if anyone has already done it or not.

James, yes, I wonder the same. They did admit it’s a mistake, which is a good start.

Graeme, I agree. Sometimes I think people are just ignorant. All they see is the pretty advertising and promotion, but nothing about what goes on behind the scene, especially how the food came to the table. And oh yes, being a vegan, I can definitely be proud to say that our diet is probably the most environmentally friendly!

I’m a huge critic of McDonalds and other fast food chains. I’m constantly surprised when I see seemingly rational people carrying fast food bags with the golden arches. logo on the side.
For me, if people want to eat processed, disguisting filth that’s their choice, but people seem completely oblivious to the animal welfare issues and damage that fast food production does to the environment.
My primary concerns revolve around the packaging and the mass produced meat. I make no apologies for being a meat eater, but you’ve got to buy ethically, otherwise, what’s the point? Just eating it for the sake of it? As an omnivore you can arguably eat a more enviromentally sound diet than any other, but places like McDonalds do such damage that, for most people, the idea of being a consciencious consumer is completely lost.
    I hate it.

it’ll be interesting to see how McD’s PR attempts to “save” this one. Time to earn the big bucks.

I missed out on McD’s latest twitter campaign, so thanks for sharing! I did see the “pink chicken” image that has been circulating on Facebook so I had to blow off some steam yesterday on my health/food blog. My biggest qualm is that children are eating this stuff and as adults we let them. The question I posed is how did McD’s, Taco Bell etc. get to be a “fun treat” for some kids? How can we change that for good? I wish we could all conquer that one! (I don’t think it’s rocket science!)
