I saw this sign at the Tin Hau MTR (Mass Transit Railway) station in Hong Kong today and found it amusing.
So, mandarin orange plants, incense, balloons and…roast pigs are not allowed inside the subway. I used to love roast pigs before I went vegan, so pardon me for writing a post about that 5 years ago. For those who aren’t too sure what it looks like, that hyperlinked post will give you some idea. These are all the items you could purchase from the nearby Chinese new year night market and stores. Hong Kong Chinese have the tradition to offer incense and roast pig or other food to their ancestors and gods. So MTR is expecting more traffic of these items during Chinese new year when locals rush to the temples to pray for a better new year.
How do people know Chinese gods are carnivores? For those who believe in Buddhism and other Chinese religions, they try to stick with the ritual of eating vegetarian or vegan on the first and fifteenth of each month (lunar calendar), if they don’t have the will to be a vegetarian as the religions recommend. It’s just a wild thinking (this world is full of crazy stuff anyway) but those gods may just be vegan and get offended by those who offer them a roast pig every year…

hahaha! brill! Only in HK!
I know, it’s hilarious!
That sign made me laugh
