It’s pretty amazing that our society has reached a point where the effort necessary to extract oil from the ground, ship it to a refinery, turn it into plastic, shape it appropriately, truck it to a store, buy it and bring it home…is considered to be less effort than what it takes to just wash the spoon when you are done with it.

Plastic spoon & eco-friendly tips

Thank you to the person who made this poster. This is brilliant. This is not just a eco-friendly message…it’s a wake-up call about how illogical some things are in this world. We need to stop the nonsense.

Yes, please just wash the damn spoon, fork and chopsticks when you are done with them. Better still, just bring a fork or a set of utensils to where you work. You bring your mug there. Why not your own silverware?

I know it doesn’t help when restaurants give away Styrofoam takeout boxes or other disposables. We do what we can. It’s about doing our part and it all adds up.

This poster should be plastered all over the country, or a PSA should air TV so we don’t use so much paper…:) I can’t tell you how many times I have heard “let’s just use paper plates and plastic silverware, it’s easier”. I know some people who buy “upscale” paper plates and silverware that look like the real thing! Where do they think everything goes when they are done? In the trash and not in the dish washer, obviously, but what about beyond that? We need to get these people thinking beyond the immediate. Everyone I know who gets take out food has a drawer full of plastic utensils. I say to restaurants: charge for them! As for the paper plate/plastic silverware users, it’s all about education. Sure, you may save 10 minutes if you can just throw your kids’ plates away, but think about your kids’ world when they are adults. Let’s not destroy it!

Lala, I totally agree with you. It’s just like the plastic bag levy in Hong Kong, once the government and stores started charging for HK$0.50 a bag, all of a sudden majority of the people would carry reusable bags with them when they shop.

  3. love that poster. very provocative. love the graphic text as well. i need to learn how to do that…

James, you can easily do it with any software. Just need to insert different text boxes so each line could be of different sizes. ;) You could even try to play around with MS Word.
