Ditch the mainstream restaurants and do your date a favor by picking a more unique place on Valentine’s Day. Yes, I mean all those restaurants in the international hotel chains. No, it’s not too early to start planning.

Trying to impress your date, guy or girl, gay or lesbian, isn’t easy. It’s harder if your date is a vegetarian or vegan, in Hong Kong. Yep, good luck finding fancy Western vegan restaurants here like those in Chicago, New York City or San Francisco. Hong Kong isn’t completely hopeless, fortunately. Thanks to progressive restaurant operator and executive chef at FINDS, Hong Kong’s first and only Nordic restaurant, which is housed in The Luxe Manor, a boutique hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui. Anna Adasiewicz, Managing Director and Jaakko Sorsa, Executive Chef of FINDS strive to provide options for vegetarians and veggie lovers at every meal at every occasion. His veggie version of the 7-course Nordic New Year’s Eve menu last month was popular even among the meat-eaters.

Jaakko, also the only Finnish chef in town, designed a 5-course vegetarian Valentine’s Day dinner that could possibly lure a group of carnivores as well: White tomato foam with marinated avocado; terrine of white and green asparagus, butter lettuce, truffle-poached egg, ginger-scented dressing; foamy Green Pea Soup with caramelized fig; grilled and marinated pumpkin and parsnip with artichoke risotto, baby spinach, porcini mushroom sauce; and three-layer chocolate Marquise with apricots and strawberries marinated in rose champagne.

Vegetarians and veggie lovers will be in good hands at FINDS. If you are a vegan, make sure you mention that during the reservation and ask them to adapt the menu for you. For those who want a more sassy experience, add a specially designed 5-course wine pairing to the menu, which includes a love potion that infiltrates mystical and romantic elements to your night. Oh yeah, that love potion would be pretty potent.
