After being in Alamogordo with only fast food chains and American-Chinese buffet, I get really “hungry” for fine cuisine and delicacies from time to time.  I was excited when I heard that there would be a roast pig during the gathering that I was going to.  When I arrived, this is what I saw:

American roast pig    VS    Hong Kong roast pig

            American                                        Chinese

I couldn’t help but showed my disappointment.  The Hong Kong roast pig that I adore is a succulent piglet with clean and crispy skin, which is the best part of the pig.  What happened with the pig at the gathering was that the skin was all burned and hairy.  All the skin was stripped off for obvious health and hygiene reason, which I was relieved to find out.  The meat tasted like any pork loin that was cooked in a slow cooker.

I learned that food with the same name can be very misleading sometimes.  I enjoyed the experience at this cookout, but food is still the best at home – Hong Kong.
